In various journalism classes they always stress the point to be nice to everyone and treat them with respect. Janitors, secretaries and so on. One never knows when they can help you out in your career field. I think it is good advice for most of the free world.

Fans in the outfield bleachers of Rosenblatt were tossing around an inflatable orca along with their beach balls. The orca ended up beached in the outfield. Members of the groundscrew rescued it. They promptly deposited it in the Texas bullpen, where they were kind enough to feed it.

Under the watchful eye of father Lance, five-year-old Meg Raabe takes laps in the parking lot of Central Presbyterian Church near 55th and Leavenworth Streets. Lance said this is one of the first nights that Meg could get out and ride without the training wheels.

After numerous laps in the parking lot (some with the aid of dad), the night ended with a fall, a few tears and a scraped knee. Meg decided she had enough and wanted to walk the bike home. Brother Sam, 7, had also learned to ride a bike in the same parking lot.

I haven't done a star trails photo for about five years, so I figured I could get away with it. I had several locations planned and did location scouting in the daytime.

Snake River Falls is slightly difficult to get to in the daytime. You have to climb down a rocky trail that has been eroded by water.

For a star trails photo you have to work in complete darkness. I was unable to find the trail at night and foraged my own way down through the rocks with one flashlight in my mouth and one in my hand. I was worried about tripping and swallowing the flashlight in my mouth.

I had trouble composing the shot in the darkness and my flashlights weren't as bright as I had thought in the vast expanse of Snake River Falls. I finally settled on a small sandy spot near the river. I couldn't see the falls, but their thunderous roar told me where they were. I opened the shutter and sat on a blanket. I had started to lie down when I remembered all the warnings of the namesake of the area, it was called Snake River Falls because of the rattle snakes in area.

Looking up into the great expanse of the universe I was accompanied by Miles Davis, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band and some Pink Floyd on my ipod. Every now and then stray maracas would cause a panic that a rattle snake was curious.

After several hours I climbed out and dragged a camera, tripod and blanket. Halfway up, I lost my blanket on the way up.

For the second photo I made my way out to the beach of Merritt Reservoir and set-up my tripod. I left it alone and went back to my cabin and fell asleep. A few hours later I went to retrieve it and managed to lock myself out of my cabin.

A storm blew through Omaha Friday June 27th, just another in a long summer of severe weather. The storm looked small on the radar but packed winds of 70-90 MPH winds with straight-line wind gusts up to 115 MPH. That would place it between a Category 1 and Category 3 hurricane. While that may not sound that big, most people have warning for a hurricane. This day there were several thousand people outside for numerous events including the Summer Arts Festival (photos below).

  I had spent the whole day photographing one of my best friend’s wedding. IT was hot and I was a bit dehydrated. We had a taken a bus out to Ashland and I didn’t get home until about 1:30 in the morning. I took a quick shower and went to bed.
  At around 2:30 the sirens woke me up. I considered trying to sleep through it, realizing that was a bad idea, I went into the living room and turned on the TV. As soon I had heard that there was a report of a roof collapse at the Walmart, I grabbed my gear and took off.
  The Walmart was dark I could see a big pile in the middle.
I took a few photos and headed out to Millard, I had head over the scanner there was major damage there. They had said there was a building totaled, a blown over gas pump and a major gas line ruptured.

  I wondered through the rain in the neighborhood near 132nd and Q Streets shooting damage from building to building. I could hear the gas leak from about a block away
On the way out I came across a totaled garage. The two cars were intact and in place, but the garage was completely blown off its foundation. I spoke to owners, not realizing until I got home that I had worked with him ten years ago.
  I always have trouble getting around in Millard, it used to be a different city so the streets don’t line up with the rest of Omaha. I got a flat tired on my way out. Trying to change a tire in the rain is no fun, it gets even worse when your lug wrench turns up missing. I ran through a flooded muddy field to a cable repair man in the area and asked if I could borrow his. I think I must have frightened him as he refused to help. I had to flag down some motorists to help.
  On my way out of Millard I realized my spare was severely under-inflated. I stopped at several gas stations until I found one that was open and had free air (I had no cash).
I watched the sun rise as I filled images. The next day I discovered another flat tire.

I had the opportunity to photograph a fashion show at the Old Burlington Northern Train Station. It is in a state of ruin, which made for some interesting photos.

I overheard the guy walking past the bike say he had lent his bike to his friend who wrecked it. The van he was pinned under is between the officers in the background.

He refused to talk to the media.
